Weekly sports report

For a four day week it was very busy in The Towers sporting calendar. We had a terrific trip to Wembley on the Saturday and an amazing experience which was thoroughly enjoyed by all the girls.

Tuesday started with an away match for the U14 and U15s against Farlington School, both teams played well and came away with good results. The 1st inning was timed, 8 minutes, and then 2nd inning was 21 good balls, this allowed the teams to play different tactics and practice different elements of the game. The U14s won both innings 6-4 and 7-3½, the U15 lost the 1st inning but won the 2nd inning 3½ – 2½.

Wednesday the juniors also played Farlington School at Home, the scores were a little different although the year 5 and 6 teams worked hard. They gave away quite a few ½ rounders to no balls and were unable to beat Farlington fielding skills. Year 6s lost 24½ – 12 and the year 5s lost 19½ – 13½ after two innings.

Also on Wednesday was the senior District schools Athletics event held at Worthing Leisure centre, where 14 schools competed in a number of events for a place in the Sussex Schools Athletics Competition. The Towers had some successful results, Madelaine P came 1st in the 800m, Kirsty N came 2nd in Long Jump and Triple Jump, Annabel P came 2nd in Discus, Tegan H came 3rd in Shot Putt, Kirsty N came 4th in 100m. The top two girls in each event go through to the Sussex competition on Saturday 9th June at the K2 Crawley.

Thursday was the U14 and U15 rounders league matches, the U15s played Steyning B team winning 15 ½ – 9 ½ after 2 innings of 21 good balls and then had a second game against Shoreham Academy winning 10 – 9. The U14 team won against Shoreham Academy and lost 10-6½ after 2 innings of 21 good balls.
