A slight change to previous years this year, as all performances were on the stage and the Juniors could also compete in the solos/duets category for their house. Rehearsals as usual had been top priority over the last couple of weeks, with many students working hard and working together in their houses. Two past students that left the Towers in 2014 Anna Clark and Amiee Thomas came back to judge the competition. The theme was Movies and Theatre so there was a vast variety of songs and dances
The junior solo and duets started the afternoon; with Maggie from year 5 performing to the ‘Circle of life’, this was then followed by five more performances from the junior students. The scoring was very close and they all performed so well. Olivia in year 4 and her sister Erin in year 6 won the category for Clitherow with their dance to ‘cant stop the beat’ from Hairspray.
The year 7 and 8 solo/duets followed, with two performances from each house. Leola and Darcey from year 8 won performing a well-rehearsed dance to Drama Club by Melanie Martinez from the film K-12. Belle and Livi in year 7 came 2nd and Mya from year 7 came 3rd with her solo to ‘Let it go’ from Frozen.
Two solos/duets from each house from year 9, 10 and 11 competed in the next category. Sienna and Millie from year 10 performed an amazing well timed and rehearsed dance to ‘cant stop your tail feather’ by the Blues Brothers. Meghan and Abi from More and April and Tegan from More with their roller Skating dance came joint second and the other competitors all came joint third.
After a short interval, the group dances began with the juniors performances, with two house performing to a song from Matilda and the other from Mamma Mia 2. Howard juniors won with a dance to ‘when I kissed the teacher’ from Mamma Mia 2. All the seniors performed a group dance from each year group, the year 7 and 8s performed first with year 8 Howard winning dancing to a song from The Greatest Showman followed by year 7 Howard and Year 8 More coming second. The last groups to perform were the year 9, 10 and 11s, More house in year 9 and 11 came joint 1st and the year 11s from Clitherow coming second.
It was time then to add up all the scores from all the dances, More came 3rd, Howard came 2nd and Clitherow came 1st with 329 points for the second year running.
