As Year 10 and 11 who are studying medicine throughout history know, medical breakthroughs have often been due to not only teamwork but also pushing humankind to its limits. In this spirit, we have decided to end Medieval Medicine Day with a challenge for Year 7, where they attempted Year 11-level GCSE work on the role of the Church in Medicine c1250-1500. They then finally had to work as a team with the Year 11 pupils, who study medicine as part of their history GCSE by interviewing them about their knowledge of medieval medicine. The day finished with Year 7 acting out different medieval treatments (such as bathing in water that had had a fox boiled in it) and the Year 11 had to guess which type of treatment it was! The Year 7 not only gained a taster of history GCSE but also got to help the Year 11 with their revision for one part of their exam this summer.
