Miss Tallant took three Year 7 girls, Rhiana F, Lucia P and Eva H to the Spelling Bee competition at Southampton University on 24th April. They all thoroughly enjoyed the day and despite being quite nervous about the competition, the girls were very excited about visiting a university for the first time. They attended a welcome talk in the lecture theatre by the Head of Modern Languages at the university and later on, also attended a lecture about the importance of learning languages, which was extremely inspirational.

Throughout the day the girls were reminded that they were already winners by attending. They were in the top 50 of 3000 pupils that entered the competition. The first round took place in classrooms and then four winners went through to the final which was later in the day in the lecture theatre. Lucia was successful in getting into the final and she came 4th overall which is such an amazing achievement! She has therefore been invited to the National Final which is held at Cambridge University on the 1st July.

Miss Tallant, who was also asked to be a judge, said, “I was so proud of the three girls taking part yesterday and I’m so excited that Lucia will be representing The Towers at Cambridge University. Such an amazing achievement!”

Congratulations to Lucia, Rhiana and Eva and a huge thanks to Miss Tallant for preparing the girls and accompanying them.
