This last week started gently and gradually revved as the week went on. As usual we had sports fixtures, play rehearsals and clubs going on but there was so much more too!
On Tuesday we enjoyed Yr 6’s assembly about the Macmillan Coffee Morning, which was preceded by a beautiful musical piece about space – travel is the junior theme this term. In the evening we sent a Yr 9 debating team off to a local school, where representatives from Oxford University shared their expertise.
Thursday evening was extremely busy with meetings. Firstly the PTA met, then all those going on the PGL sports weekend, followed by the Iceland trip meeting. I had at least half a dozen offers from parents willing to go to Iceland as helpers or even in place of their daughters!
The excitement reached fever pitch today however!
This morning Yr 6 raised £365.04 for Macmillan with their delicious cakes. We had joint winners of the cake competitions – congratulations to Maggie M and Megan G-B for their stunning entries.
The absolute pinnacle however, was Mrs Syred abseiling down Arundel Castle. Jason and I took five Yr7 girls, the individuals who had raised the most money for Chestnut Tree House, with us. After a meander round the grounds, we watched Mrs Syred complete her amazing feat. We were incredibly proud, cheering her on but the general consensus was; “Wow, what a woman!” followed by “Thank goodness it wasn’t me!” As we had had such a stressful morning a quick trip to McDonald’s was definitely on the cards before returning to school.
Mrs Syred would like to thank all those who generously contribute to the charity. Yr9, 10 and 11 clubbed together to make considerable contributions, which with individual amounts came to over £700!
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
