Weekly Match report – Week 13th may 2019

After the rain last week resulting in all fixtures cancelled, it was great that all the games went ahead this week. Tuesday was the week of the year 7 and 8 Rounders league against Davison School. The Year 8s got off to a great start scoring 6 points in the first inning, with Harriet scoring three full rounders’ as she was able to find the gaps in the fielder between first and second post. The second inning was harder as the Davison team were more prepared for the long balls and The Towers only managed to score three and half points. The final score was nine and half, to eight and half, so a good score for the years 8s. The year 7’s also played Davison and did really well for their first game. At half time is was 7-6 to Davison and the final score ended 15 rounders’ to both teams.

On Wednesday, the year 5 and 6s had their first rounders’ game away against Burgess Hill, which was a game of two halves. The Towers won the first inning 6 rounders’ to 4 and half. Burgess Hill won the second inning five and a half to 2 and a half, resulting in Burgess Hill winning 10 rounders’ to eight and a half. Some great hits and rounders’ from Belle, Emily and Miriam. The Year 5s also won the first inning, but not the second, with the final score being 9 and half to Burgess Hill and 8 to The Towers.

Thursday the year 9 and 10s played against Steyning Grammar school in their league games. The year 10s found it a tough game as the Steyning bowler was very good and bowled such fast balls. They lost both innings as they were all out before 30 good balls. They worked hard when fielding but Steyning where just able to hit the ball further afield.  The year 9s had a much more even game and won the first inning, but unfortunately lost the second with the end result being 21-17 to Steyning Grammar School.

Weekly Sports report – 20th May 2019

It was a busy week as we ended the first half of the summer term. Tuesday started with an U12 Rounders league game against Sion school and although the Towers team worked hard to field, Sion just continued to score. They scored 27-11 rounders’ at the end of two innings, but spirits remained high and the U12s learnt a lot.

On Wednesday the weather finally allowed the District athletics to go ahead for the year 8, 9 and 10s. Many girls competed in a number of events, and they put a lot of effort and commitment into their performances. Many stepped up and filled in spaces where needed and worked extremely hard. Bea C from year 9 qualified for the Sussex Schools Athletics event on Saturday 8th June in the high jump. Madeleine P for 800m and Kirsty N for triple jump have also been able to qualify, as they were unable to attend due to their GCSEs.

In the afternoon the U11 rounders’ match against Windlesham School, was a great game by both teams. The Towers won 20 and a half to 10, with some great rounders’ from Emily and many half rounders’ from the rest of the team.

Thursday the U14 and U15s played Davison School in their rounder league matches. Both teams played exceptionally well. It was a really close game for the U15s with both teams winning an inning each, but the overall score being 9 and half to 9 to Davison. The U14s worked well and managed to score 18 and a half rounders’ to 9 and a half by the end of the game.

To end the week on a high, the year 1 and 2s had a multi activity morning at Steyning Primary School. This was a lot of fun for them as they got to mix with lots of other children and participate in a number of activities.
